Operating at ESSEC since 1996 - Affiliated to the Institute since 2024
- The IRENE Center for Negotiation & Mediation is ESSEC Business School’s specialized center dedicated to negotiation, mediation, and peaceful conflict resolution.
- Founded in 1996, it brings together academics and practitioners to develop research, field expertise, and executive training on complex negotiations, institutional change, and multi-stakeholder dialogue.
- The Center supports decision-makers in sensitive contexts — from corporate governance to international peace processes — and provides high-level training to students, companies, and public institutions.
- Its areas of focus include crisis management, leadership, public-private coordination, and strategic communication.
- Directed by Prof. Aurélien Colson, the IRENE Center has developed strong partnerships with leading academic institutions such as the French École nationale d’administration (ENA), the École de Guerre, and various diplomatic academies. It also collaborates with renowned companies including Air France-KLM, Delphi, and VINCI, as well as with major public and international institutions such as the European Commission and several national ministries.
- Since 2025, the IRENE Center has been fully integrated into the ESSEC Institute for Geopolitics & Business, reinforcing its impact at the intersection of diplomacy, corporate strategy, and geopolitical risk.
Center for European Law and Economics
Operating at ESSEC since 2008 - Affiliated to the Institute since 2024
Center for European Law and Economics
- The CEDE – Center for European Law & Economics is ESSEC Business School’s academic hub for research on the legal and economic dimensions of European integration.
- Founded in 2008, it examines how EU law and regulation shape market dynamics, institutional governance, and public policy across Europe.
- Its work focuses on strategic issues such as competition policy, internal market regulation, and the evolving legal architecture of the European Union in a shifting geopolitical landscape.
- Directed by Prof. Viviane de Beaufort, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair at ESSEC, the Center is co-funded by the European Union and works closely with leading academic institutions and EU bodies.
- Since 2025, the CEDE has been fully integrated into the ESSEC Institute for Geopolitics & Business, enhancing its role in advancing critical insight on Europe’s legal, economic, and geopolitical trajectory.
Center for Geopolitics, Defense & Leadership
Operating at ESSEC since 2021 - Affiliated to the Institute since 2024
- The ESSEC Center for Geopolitics, Defense & Leadership (GDL) is the first academic center of its kind within the world of business schools.
- Founded in 2021, it equips future leaders to understand the strategic complexities of today’s global environment, marked by the resurgence of high-intensity conflicts.
- The Center provides a gateway into the defense sector — not only as a sovereign policy domain, but also as a unique economic ecosystem shaped by dual-use technologies, long-term innovation cycles, and industrial cooperation.
- It also promotes a values-based approach to leadership, inspired by the principles that underpin military cohesion and performance: integrity, perseverance, team spirit, loyalty, and commitment to the common good.
- Co-directed by Prof. Aurélien Colson, Prof. Frédéric Charillon, and Vice Admiral Loïc Finaz, the Center collaborates with key partners such as Airbus, Archery, Naval Group, the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment, and the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
- Since 2025, the Center for Geopolitics, Defense & Leadership has been fully integrated into the ESSEC Institute for Geopolitics & Business, strengthening its role at the intersection of strategic affairs, defense innovation, and leadership education.
